Following a meeting with Mayor Nick Smith, Councillor Rollo and Council Staff, we have been advised that there is a small area of contaminated sawdust in the Beach Reserve.
NCC records show these deposits were permitted in the 1960s for a period of one year.
Erosion has exposed this issue, with NCC conducting a thorough investigation in 2023.
The TBCA supports the Mayor’s stance that this material should be removed from our iconic Tahunanui Beach.
This area is being fenced off today. This wi be dog proof.
A NCC press release will be coming out later today, we agree with the Mayor that the material should be removed as soon as possible.
